How Carlo abarth would have built a Yugo I bought Tito during my last year of high school, after selling an old Saab 96 V4 Sedan we had restored. Over the course of a few years, Tito became a little autocrossing terror. He lives on the back porch now, out from underneath the weather. I need to rebuild his exhaust, then I'll probably be tempted to drive him more. He's a hoot! |

Yes, that's the original paint, the red part at least. Tito has just under 100,000 miles on him, but he doesn't look it. On the outside, you'll notice he sits quite a bit lower than normal, with KYB struts and stiffer springs, as well as firmer bushings all around. Those are widened steel rims with 185/60-13 Yokohama A-509 tires.
Notice the little Abarth Scorpion on Tito's rear. That represents the sting he's packing under the hood. If you don't think a Yugo can move, just check out that trailer hitch. He's seen the better part of 128mph - 8,000rpm in 4th gear - while towing a small little tire trailer.
That's what I'm talking about! A 1,500cc X1/9 engine pushing out about 120hp. Those are twin Weber 36DCNF carbs. He also has a cam, header, exhaust, and quite a bit of cylinder head handy work. He'll see off quite a few small little import racers when he's feeling frisky.
The interior is mostly stock, except for the Sparco race seat, Fiat 2000 Spider steering wheel, and the little add-on tachometer. |
